Marriott Hotels - Conserving and Preserving
Every day, Marriott International is committed to sustainable environmental practices in the interest of its guests, associates, business partners, and local communities. To support these practices, Marriott consistently backs new programs to conserve and preserve the environment. Through these programs, Marriott hopes to reduce its environmental footprint and encourages you to do the same, making your world a better one to travel in.

10 simple steps you can take to help preserve the environment and reduce your carbon footprint:

  1. 1. When on vacation, take nothing but pictures, and leave nothing but footprints.
  2. 2. Warm yourself, not the environment: snuggle up in a sweater and thick socks.
  3. 3. Walk to local shops instead of driving. Take a hike.
  4. 4. Reduce your average shower time from ten minutes to five, and save over 4,200 gallons of water each year.
  5. 5. Don't cook up a storm: reuse hot water, put lids on pots, simmer dishes instead of boiling them, and don't preheat the oven.
  6. 6. Eat less resource-intensive meat (like chicken and turkey), and instead opt for more grains, fruits, and vegetables.
  7. 7. Reduce your food miles by buying local produce at a farmers market.
  8. 8. When driving, combine multiple errands and avoid high speeds and rush hour.
  9. 9. Turn off all lights and electronics every night.
  10. 10. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
